KROLL ON BIWOTT – THE PURCHASE OF RIVERSIDE DRIVE HOUSE
The Kroll Report alleged that, ‘According to ‘Source A’ Biwott bought a house in Riverside Drive [Nairobi] from the Irish Embassy that was paid for offshore. The date of the transaction remains undisclosed’.
DID KROLL GET IT RIGHT?
Biwott’s lawyer said: Nicholas Biwott bought this house from the Government of Ireland through the Irish Embassy in Kenya. Payment was made in Kenya, in Kenya Shillings to a Kenyan Advocate acting for the Government of Ireland – no offshore account was used in the transaction.
The house was publicly on the market, not a private sale. The transfer was registered on 20 June 1988 at the Lands Registry in Nairobi. This is public information easily verified by a simple search at the land registry office.
The transaction was totally legitimate. Neither Mr Biwott nor the Government of Ireland, would have been party to an illegal transaction.
THE SOURCE INVESTIGATES
Inquiries at the Land Registry office confirm the statement made by Biwott’s lawyer regarding the transfer of ownership of the property in June 1988.
